What Is HD-ILA?

The HD-ILA Advantage
Microdisplay Technology

Microdisplays are the newest form of rear projection television technology to hit the rapidly growing high definition display market offering all the advantages of CRT based rear projection TVs (RPTVs), plus a whole lot more. Microdisplays come in all the same size ranges of traditional RPTVs, but are based on digital microchips driven by light projection technology, and not CRT based technology.

The most notable advantages to microdisplay technology are:
  • Digital Microchip technology allows for significantly higher resolution capabilities and much brighter images
  • No periodic re-convergence requirements make them low-maintenance
  • They offer increased viewing angles and much slimmer and light weight cabinet designs

With all these advantages, microdisplays are sure to redefine the RPTV display market. At the same time, HD-ILA will redefine the microdisplay market.

JVC’s highly anticipated HD-ILA brand television displays are redefining the standards by which microdisplays are judged. HD-ILA TVs are the most technologically advanced microdisplays available today. Powered by the same D-ILA (Direct-drive Image Light Amplifier) microchips employed by our highly successful professional video projectors, HD-ILA microdisplays make up JVC’s flagship television line-up.

D-ILA utilizes a highly sophisticated form of 3-chip, vertically oriented LCOS (liquid crystal on silicon) technology that adds an inorganic alignment layer which both stabilizes the device performance and maximizes chip production. The result is superior resolution, grayscaling, brightness, and color reproduction when compared not only to LCD and DMD (aka DLP ™), but also to other existing LCOS systems.

The life behind D-ILA is our unique, custom designed projection lens assembly which consists of 13 separate glass components and an aspheric resin coated lens that insures full time precision focus. On each element we use a total of 32 layers of anti-reflective coatings which minimize potential internal reflections and allow for crystal clear pictures and pure image reproduction.

From start to finish, JVC’s 3-chip D-ILA technology is superior in almost every way to the other leading forms of microdisplay technologies and the rest of this catalog is designed to show you how and why this is true.

In typical high action scenes there is often less contrast on the edges of the fast moving objects which appears as unwanted blur. JVC's HD Range 75MHz Digital Super Detail (DSD) enhances the edges of the moving image to minimize the blur within these low contrast situations recreating an image as sharply focused as the original source.

User Replaceable Lamp At JVC, we believe that convenience factors make all the difference in the world, and our engineers are always thinking of ways to make our televisions more user friendly. In the case of HD-ILA televisions, each model is equipped with a long life user replaceable lamp. The old lamp can be pulled straight out and the new lamp pushed straight back and into place.

JVC ’s unique, and newly improved, 10.95 Million Pixel Natural Progressive picture circuitry optimizes signal quality by doubling the image data in each field sampled.

Using advanced 3D interpolation and considering both time and position, our Natural Progressive technology displays solid images without scanning lines and eliminates jagged edge noise and image trails. Ordinary sampling samples less than half the number of frames.

JVC's Exclusive 4 Point Color Managment employs a pin-point sampling process of the four colors:
green - In order for greens to be their purest and to look natural, yellows often need to be toned down.
yellow -  CMS softens yellows so that they look silky and smooth without giving skin tones a darkened.
red - In order for reds and magentas to appear as vivid as possible, CMS samples these areas and tones down blues within that range.
blue - CMS samples blue areas of images and tones down the greens to avoid being influenced by greens.

Every HD-ILA television is widescreen which is perfect for viewing movies in their original format, but it also allows for some other convenient multi screen features as well. Twin mode lets you view two programs in same size windows side by side on the screen.

Index lets you search what is on by scanning the programs consecutively in 12 separate windows. Once you see the program that you want to watch, press the SELECT button on your remote control to go to that channel.

BBE High Definition Audio makes audio sound natural and clear by compensating for the inevitable phase and amplitude distortions that prevent sound from being its purest in regular TV sound.

JVC's Exclusive Advanced Hyper Surround Sound (A.H.S.) employees "virtual speakers" to create the impression of a 3-dimensional soundfield in your room while only using the TV 's front speakers.

Image with JVC's D6500K is warm and rich with detail. When the video editors convert films to DVD, or other video sources, the color temperature standard they use for their equipment is D6500K which is the equivalent or average color temperature of natural daylight. In transition to DVD, this color temperature can be lost but with our exclusive D6500K calibrating circuit, a press of the button can bring the original warm look and feel back to any video source.

A DVD is a typical 480i source but an HD-ILA is a 720p display. To compensate for this difference between source and display, another manufacturer might simply double the lines of resolution. While the process of line doubling helps, it is not nearly enough in the opinions of our engineers.

For a JVC brand television only an elaborate process like D.I.S.T. that digitally scales the images is enough to insure that we will provide the superior resolution and the dynamic cinema-like picture you would expect.
JVC's D.I.S.T. gives you the truest, clearest image possible.
